Pancake Races
Cut out some saucepans and pancakes from card and laminate them then set up a pancake race in teams, see who can keep their pancake on the pan without dropping and the first team to complete the race wins!
Pancake Obstacle Course
Think Mission impossible style and reuse the pancakes made for the races! Set out stepping stones and tightropes to challenge their balance, coordination and fine motor skills. Have the teams navigate the course to see if they can complete it without dropping their pancakes.
Pancake Poetry
Read the children the ‘Mix a Pancake’ nursery rhyme and challenge them to come up with a poem of their own. You can develop this for older children to incorporate haikus, pentameter and so on. Have your children write their poem on a frying pan and create a beautiful display of their work.
Flap the Pancake
A fun activity to experiment with different tools and how they affect the force created. Place a paper pancake on the floor and encourage the children to use different objects to flap and create wind to see how far they can move their pancake. The best gush or furthest pancake wins!
Pancake Shopping List
Ask your class to think about what they would need to make pancakes, allow them explore different ingredients that you have set out to see what they think would make a yummy pancake. Then ask them to think about the pancake cooking process, you can have cards set out with different stages and ask if they are able to place them in the correct order.
