Context
Wigmore Primary School is a large primary of more than 500 children in an urban setting. We have an above national percentage of pupil premium children and a high percentage of pupils with SEND with Education and Health Care plans (EHCP). Attendance is in line with the national average even through Covid-19
We have noticed that Covid-19 has affected students’ mental health. The children seemed more worried about their learning, and students lower down the school appeared more attached to their parents. Their learning had been disjointed by the lockdown, so help from the National Tutoring Programme (NTP) was particularly useful.
We selected those disadvantaged children who had seen their education most impacted by Covid and school closures and who were at risk of not meeting age related expectations.
Tutoring
The NTP helped ease the school’s difficulties in staffing 1:3 teaching sessions, by providing additional tutoring support. The subsidised costs were also very appealing.
We accessed the programme through Pearson, since we were already using Pearson’s Power Maths course and were confident in the quality of the service.
